India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 1.49%

Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Banking, Auto and Real Estate sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 1.49% to hit a new 3-months low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 1.52%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML), which rose 6.84% or 72.55 points to trade at 1,133.80 at the close. Meanwhile, Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd. (NS:APLH) added 0.64% or 27.75 points to end at 4,345.00 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) was unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 points to 155.80 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK), which fell 7.40% or 84.70 points to trade at 1,060.10 at the close. State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) declined 3.17% or 17.35 points to end at 530.00 and Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) was down 3.09% or 13.45 points to 422.40.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which rose 6.83% to 1,133.60, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 0.16% to settle at 954.20 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which lost 0.20% to close at 226.10.

The worst performers were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 7.46% to 1,060.00 in late trade, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which lost 3.21% to settle at 529.70 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 2.57% to 1,195.15 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1720 to 251 and 37 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2735 fell and 744 advanced, while 147 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 20.89% to 16.22 a new 1-month high.

Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.09% or 20.40 to $1,887.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 1.83% or 1.40 to hit $75.28 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.68% or 1.39 to trade at $81.39 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.29% to 82.20, while EUR/INR rose 0.59% to 87.74.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.32% at 103.82.
