{"id":4772,"date":"2026-11-05T04:10:47","date_gmt":"2026-11-05T02:10:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailybusiness.info\/?p=4772"},"modified":"2026-11-05T04:10:47","modified_gmt":"2026-11-05T02:10:47","slug":"egypt-targets-annual-production-of-100000-electric-vehicles-by-2032","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailybusiness.info\/?p=4772","title":{"rendered":"Egypt targets annual production of 100,000 electric vehicles by 2032"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Egypt is stepping up efforts to localise electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing and automotive components, targeting annual production of up to 100,000 vehicles by 2032 as the government seeks to reduce import dependence, strengthen domestic manufacturing and expand export opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly reviewed the main pillars of the government\u2019s plan to localise the automotive industry and its supporting industries during a meeting attended by Khaled Hashem, Minister of Industry, and Mohamed Sami, the ministry\u2019s Assistant Minister for Strategic Affairs.<\/p>\n<p>Madbouly said industrial growth remains a key government priority, with particular emphasis on automotive manufacturing, given Egypt\u2019s large domestic consumer market and opportunities to export to neighbouring markets.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the government is placing particular focus on electric vehicle manufacturing and its components as part of its broader strategy to support the green transition, reduce reliance on conventional fuels and lower the country\u2019s import bill.<\/p>\n<p><strong><b>Localising automotive components<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Industry Minister Khaled Hashem outlined ongoing partnerships aimed at increasing domestic production of automotive components.<\/p>\n<p>These include an agreement involving an international company, El Araby Group and the Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI) to manufacture seven metal automotive components, with a combined annual production capacity of 8 million pieces.<\/p>\n<p>The ministry is also cooperating with the Brazilian Association of the Mould and Die Industry and the Productivity and Vocational Training Department to establish a specialised vocational school for mould and die manufacturing.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding electric vehicle batteries, Hashem highlighted a partnership between an international company and MCV to use locally supplied batteries in buses, alongside ongoing discussions with another international company to supply batteries for vehicles manufactured in Egypt.<\/p>\n<p>The government is also exploring cooperation with an international company to manufacture electric motors locally in partnership with the AOI.<\/p>\n<p><strong><b>Electric vehicle production targets<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hashem said a major international automaker plans to begin producing three electric vehicle models in Egypt in 2027, targeting annual production of 100,000 vehicles by 2032.<\/p>\n<p>The company also aims to increase the local component content of its vehicles from an initial 10% to 27% by 2032.<\/p>\n<p>The minister further noted that China\u2019s Dongfeng has started manufacturing electric vehicles in partnership with SN Automotive and state-owned El Nasr Automotive Manufacturing Company, using El Nasr\u2019s production lines.<\/p>\n<p>The localisation plan also includes strengthening the domestic automotive supply chain by developing laboratory testing capabilities for automotive components and upgrading the Engineering Industries Technology Centre in 10th of Ramadan City to support local suppliers.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding electric vehicle infrastructure, the ministry is working with international companies to establish charging stations and prepare the necessary infrastructure to facilitate their operation.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting also reviewed progress under the National Automotive Industry Development Programme (AIDP), which was launched to encourage deeper local manufacturing and strengthen the domestic automotive industry.<\/p>\n<p>Hashem said the government is studying additional incentives and facilities for electric vehicle manufacturing to encourage automakers to begin local production, in line with Egypt\u2019s gradual transition towards cleaner energy-powered transport.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Egypt is stepping up efforts to localise electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing and automotive components, targeting annual production of up to 100,000 vehicles by 2032 as the government seeks to reduce import dependence, strengthen domestic manufacturing and expand export opportunities.
