Hassan Abdalla, Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), met with Gelsomina Vigliotti, Vice-President of the European Investment Bank (EIB), during her visit to Egypt to discuss areas of cooperation, future partnership plans and issues of mutual interest.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, Abdalla praised the strategic partnership between the CBE and the EIB, the financing arm of the European Union.<\/p>\n

He reviewed developments in the Egyptian economy and the financial soundness indicators of banks operating in Egypt, highlighting the progress achieved despite unprecedented global and regional challenges.<\/p>\n

For her part, Vigliotti said the resilience of Egypt\u2019s banking sector was reflected in its financial soundness indicators, particularly high capital adequacy ratios and liquidity levels, alongside a low ratio of non-performing loans.<\/p>\n

She commended the productive cooperation between the EIB and Egypt and praised the CBE\u2019s efforts to support and strengthen the Egyptian economy.<\/p>\n

Both sides expressed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in sustainability and support for the CBE\u2019s efforts to promote sustainable finance.<\/p>\n

In this context, they reviewed the Greening Financial Systems Programme (GFS), an EIB technical assistance initiative designed to support the CBE\u2019s sustainable finance efforts.<\/p>\n

The CBE reaffirmed its commitment to activating the programme in the coming period. It joined the initiative in July 2025, and the two institutions are preparing to sign a cooperation agreement that includes provisions for technical capacity-building.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
