In response, Ndejumbi confirmed that Tanzania’s transport minister will tour several Egyptian seaports to study their management and operational systems as Dodoma advances its own port expansion plans.

Both leaders highlighted the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Plant—currently being built in Tanzania by an Egyptian consortium comprising Arab Contractors and Elsewedy Electric—as a benchmark for successful intra-African infrastructure cooperation. Ndejumbi praised the consortium’s execution of the strategic project, calling it one of the continent’s leading developmental initiatives.

The talks also covered proposals for a phased joint agricultural land reclamation project designed to secure food supply chains and achieve self-sufficiency for both countries. Additionally, Madbouly offered to expand medical cooperation by sending Egyptian medical convoys to Tanzania and hosting Tanzanian doctors for training in advanced Egyptian medical centers.

The meeting, attended by Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam and Assistant Foreign Minister for African Affairs Mohamed Karim Sherif, also addressed the sensitive issue of Nile water management.

Madbouly reaffirmed Egypt’s support for developmental projects across the Nile Basin—citing Cairo’s backing of dams in Sudan, Uganda, and Tanzania—while stressing the country’s uncompromising stance on protecting its historical water rights. Minister Sewilam reiterated this position, noting that while Egypt fully supports sustainable development in the basin, such initiatives must adhere strictly to international law governing shared waterways and prioritize mutual benefit without harming any riparian state.

During the diplomatic exchange, Madbouly congratulated Ndejumbi on his recent appointment as vice president and extended formal condolences to the Tanzanian people following the recent passing of President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s husband.

The first Alamein Africa Forum opened Friday in the northern Egyptian coastal city of New Alamein, bringing together around 1,500 African business leaders to discuss investment, trade and economic cooperation. Running from Oct. 2 to 4, the forum aims to promote greater economic integration and business cooperation across the continent.
