The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) said the banking sector\u2019s net foreign assets rose to $28.418bn in July 2026, equivalent to EGP 1.454trn, compared with $27.965bn, equivalent to EGP 1.378trn, in June 2026.<\/p>\n

The US dollar exchange rate against the Egyptian pound stood at EGP 51.1934 in July, compared with around EGP 49.2763 in June.<\/p>\n

Total foreign assets held by the banking system \u2014 comprising the CBE and banks \u2014 reached the equivalent of EGP 5.146trn, compared with EGP 4.939trn in June.<\/p>\n

Foreign liabilities, meanwhile, stood at the equivalent of EGP 3.691trn, compared with EGP 3.591trn.<\/p>\n

The banking sector\u2019s net foreign assets are considered one of the most important measures of banking stability and resilience, reflecting the difference between the sector\u2019s foreign-currency assets and liabilities.<\/p>\n

Separately, the CBE said domestic liquidity in the banking sector rose to EGP 15.499trn in July 2026, compared with EGP 15.261trn in the previous month.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, money supply declined to EGP 4.489trn from EGP 4.492trn, while currency in circulation outside the banking system stood at EGP 1.631trn, compared with EGP 1.649trn.<\/p>\n

The CBE also said total non-government deposits in local currency at banks rose to EGP 10.443trn in July 2026, compared with EGP 10.347trn in June.<\/p>\n

Local-currency demand deposits stood at EGP 2.858trn, compared with EGP 2.842trn. The public business sector accounted for around EGP 119.082bn of these deposits, the private sector for EGP 1.465trn, and the household sector for EGP 1.274trn.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, local-currency time deposits and savings certificate balances reached EGP 7.584trn in July, compared with EGP 7.505trn in June. The public business sector accounted for EGP 78.771bn, the private sector for EGP 405.521bn, and the household sector for EGP 7.100trn.<\/p>\n

In a related development, non-government foreign-currency deposits at banks rose to the equivalent of EGP 3.425trn in July 2026, compared with EGP 3.264trn in June, according to a report issued by the CBE.<\/p>\n

The report showed that foreign-currency demand deposits increased to the equivalent of EGP 868.148bn, compared with EGP 827.608bn. The public business sector accounted for the equivalent of EGP 44.870bn of these deposits, the private business sector for EGP 572.760bn, and the household sector for EGP 250.610bn.<\/p>\n

Foreign-currency time deposits and savings certificate balances, meanwhile, reached the equivalent of EGP 2.557trn in July, compared with EGP 2.436trn in June.
