\u00a0Under the slogan “Values beyond profits, rooted in principles… committed to the future,” and in a move that affirms its absolute leadership in sustainable Islamic banking, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank-Egypt (ADIB-Egypt) announced unprecedented exceptional achievements during 2025 in the field of sustainability. These included winning a suite of prestigious international awards and issuing its third Sustainability Report, alongside its fifth Carbon Footprint Report for 2025. This reflects its firm commitment to supporting the transition towards a green and sustainable economy in line with global standards and Egypt Vision 2030.<\/div>\n
In a qualitative achievement that reflects the success of its ambitious strategy, ADIB-Egypt won 9 major awards as the best sustainable Islamic bank, in recognition of its success in integrating the pillars of environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) with outstanding financial performance during 2025.<\/div>\n
These awards included prestigious rankings from prominent global and regional institutions and magazines. The bank won the “Most Sustainable Islamic Bank in Egypt” award from International Business Magazine<\/i>, the “Best Islamic Bank for Sustainable Finance in Egypt” award from Global Brands Magazine<\/i>, and the “Best Sustainable Islamic Bank in Egypt” award from the Arab League Partners Alliance for Sustainability<\/i>.<\/div>\n
The accolades also extended to include the “Best Sustainable Islamic Bank in Egypt” award from World Economic Magazine<\/i>, the “Best Islamic Bank in Sustainability in the Middle East” award from the IFN Awards<\/i>, the “Best Sustainable Islamic Bank in Egypt” award from The Next 100 Global Awards<\/i>, the “Best Islamic Bank in Sustainability in Egypt” award from the World Business Achievers Awards<\/i>, the “Best ESG Strategy in the Middle East and North Africa” award from the MENA Banking Excellence Awards<\/i>, and the “Best CSR Initiative in Egypt” (ADIB Charitable Foundation) from Global Business & Finance<\/i> magazine.<\/div>\n
In a related context that strengthens the list of awards, Mr. Mohamed Aly, CEO and Managing Director of the bank, received the “Most Impactful Leader in Sustainability in the Arab Region” award from the League of Arab States. This high-level regional honor comes in recognition of his prominent leadership role in establishing a culture of sustainability within the financial and banking sector, and directing the bank’s efforts towards adopting responsible practices that support sustainable development, in line with national and regional visions for the green transition.<\/div>\n
It is worth noting that these awards and other exceptional achievements during 2025 were mentioned in the annual Sustainability Report issued according to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). This report is issued periodically as part of the bank\u2019s keenness to support the pillars of sustainability, being a bank compliant with the principles of Islamic Sharia, and since sustainability has been an integral part of the bank’s identity since the launch of its operations in the Egyptian market.<\/div>\n

Responsible Environmental Practices<\/h3>\n
Mr. Mohamed Aly, CEO and Managing Director of ADIB-Egypt, stated: “This extensive regional and international recognition with 9 prestigious awards represents a testament of trust and pride in the firm steps the bank is taking to integrate the pillars of sustainability and governance into its banking business, and an affirmation of our commitment to transparency and responsible environmental practices.” He explained that the bank manages an integrated business model compliant with Islamic Sharia principles, characterized by resilience and diversity, and designed to achieve sustainable economic growth.<\/div>\n
He continued: “The announcement of the issuance of the third Sustainability Report alongside the fifth Carbon Footprint Report for 2025 also comes as a step that clearly reflects the success of our strategy in measuring and determining the environmental impact of our operations, and continuing to lead the green transition in the banking sector in line with Egypt’s Sustainable Vision 2030, as the bank is keen on complying with the application of sustainability standards and has been issuing sustainability-related reports regularly since 2021.”<\/div>\n

Sustainability and Financial Success… An Integrated Vision<\/h3>\n
The issuance of the Sustainability Report comes in light of the bank’s continuous efforts in applying the pillars of environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG), whether in its internal or banking operations, as the bank’s strategy stipulates that sustainability must be coupled with financial success.<\/div>\n
The bank’s excellence in the field of sustainability harmonizes with strong financial performance and accelerating growth rates, as the bank recorded a net profit of EGP 12.6 billion by the end of December 2025, with noticeable expansion in retail, corporate, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) portfolios.<\/div>\n
As part of its firm commitment to supporting ESG principles, the bank renewed its membership in “Chapter Zero Egypt,” the first association in Africa and the Middle East that is part of the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Climate Governance Initiative (CGI) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). This aims to accelerate the transition towards a sustainable low-carbon economy and enhance sustainability in all the bank’s operations.<\/div>\n
Subsidiary companies were included for the first time within the scope of the reports to include “ADIB Capital,” the investment arm of the bank, “ADI FINANCE,” “ADI Consumer Finance (Takka),” and “ADI Microfinance (Arzak).” This comes within the framework of enhancing environmental, social, and governance integration through a stronger alignment with the methodological frameworks of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the International Integrated Reporting Framework (), the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), and the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE).<\/div>\n

Carbon Footprint Report<\/h3>\n
The ADIB-Egypt Carbon Footprint Report provides a comprehensive analysis of the carbon emissions generated by the bank and all its branches in Egypt during 2025. The report covers emissions classified under Scope 1, Scope 2, and relevant Scope 3 categories.<\/div>\n
ADIB-Egypt calculated its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, with 2025 marking the first year that some subsidiaries were integrated into the assessment process. All data collected and evaluated in this report adhere to the principles of the GHG Protocol issued by the World Resources Institute (WRI), including relevance, completeness, consistency, transparency, and accuracy.<\/div>\n
Since non-banking operations represent the main contributor to total activities and emissions, this report focuses in detail on assessing ADIB-Egypt’s non-banking operations. The assessment includes all operational facilities within the bank’s organizational scope, including branches and headquarters.<\/div>\n
The total carbon footprint for 2025 recorded the equivalent of 17,346 metric tons of CO2 equivalent (MTCO2e). These emissions were distributed according to the “GHG Protocol” standards across 3 main scopes, with the following indicators:<\/div>\n

    Scope 1:<\/b> Direct emissions of 901 metric tons of CO2 equivalent (5%)<\/div>\n<\/li>\n
  • \n
    Scope 2:<\/b> Indirect emissions of 6,105 metric tons of CO2 equivalent (35%)<\/div>\n<\/li>\n
  • \n
    Scope 3:<\/b> Indirect emissions of 10,340 metric tons of CO2 equivalent (60%)<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
    In support of global efforts to limit the temperature rise to 1.5\u00b0C, ADIB-Egypt committed to setting targets to reduce emissions by 2030, aiming to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42%.<\/div>\n
    The bank implemented this emission reduction strategy by providing suitable premises, where the electricity consumption rate per square meter is widely used as a standard to evaluate energy efficiency in the premises. Out of 83 operational facilities belonging to ADIB-Egypt, 14 facilities obtained an A+ rating.<\/div>\n
    ADIB-Egypt undertook numerous initiatives and activities to support the issue of climate change, integrate sustainability into its operations, and effectively reduce its carbon footprint through a comprehensive plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.<\/div>\n
    The most prominent of these initiatives include enhancing energy efficiency by fully transitioning lighting systems to LED bulbs, setting air conditioners at a temperature of 24\u00b0C, using indoor green walls to enhance thermal insulation, utilizing solar heat-reflective films, installing 6 Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF\/VRV) cooling systems, and using 80 double-glazed windows that reduce heat flow, which lessens the need for air conditioning and consequently reduces overall electricity consumption.<\/div>\n
    The bank’s initiatives also extended to include water management, by using 80 filters to restrict water flow, as well as resource rationalization. ADIB-Egypt uses eco-friendly building materials (paints, carpets, suspended ceiling tiles, gypsum boards, glass panels, partitions, marble, porcelain, aluminum panels), along with furniture made from natural wood.<\/div>\n
    Furthermore, ADIB-Egypt replaced paper marketing materials with digital media, in addition to launching initiatives towards a sustainable environment, most notably making ATM receipt printing optional to reduce paper consumption. Additionally, 56.91 tons of obsolete paper were recycled in 2025 through specialized processing that transforms old documents into paper pulp to be reused in cardboard manufacturing.<\/div>\n
