Egypt’s Tourism Development Authority (TDA) has issued 16 final allocation decisions for investment land in the South Magawish Tourism Center, south of Hurghada in the Red Sea Governorate, covering a combined area of more than 1 million square metres.
The allocations are designated for a range of integrated hotel, tourism services, and entertainment projects, which will be implemented in accordance with approved development schedules.
Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Randa El-Menshawy said the government is focused on maximising the tourism and investment potential of Egypt’s various destinations and creating an environment that supports investment and the development of integrated projects.
She added that expanding tourism projects is part of the state’s efforts to increase hotel room capacity and strengthen the capabilities of tourism cities and centres. Such investments are expected to support economic activity and create additional job opportunities, while the ministry and the General Authority for Tourism Development (GATD) continue to facilitate procedures and monitor project implementation.
Mostafa Abdel Wahab, CEO of the TDA, said the allocation decisions cover 16 plots within the tourism centre’s master plans, with a combined area exceeding 1 million square metres.
The projects are expected to add around 856 hotel rooms, in addition to professionally managed accommodation units, while one existing project will expand its capacity to 946 hotel units, he said.
The allocations also include approval for the development of two water parks, or aqua parks, one of which will be operated by an international operator, Abdel Wahab said.
The projects will also include tourism service centres and upscale entertainment areas aimed at supporting existing and future tourism developments and diversifying the range of tourism products and services available to visitors.
The TDA will continue to monitor implementation in line with the approved timelines to ensure the projects are completed and brought into operation as scheduled, Abdel Wahab concluded.
