Egypt welcomes US move to release withheld military aid: Source

An informed Egyptian source welcomed the US State Department’s request to Congress to release the US$ 320 million portion of annual military aid to Egypt that had previously been withheld.

Responding to foreign media reports, the source confirmed that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had sent an official notification to Congress seeking a waiver regarding the suspension and requesting authorization to disburse the withheld funds.

The source emphasized that this move reflects the depth of the strategic relationship between Cairo and Washington and reaffirms the pivotal diplomatic role Egypt plays in the region.
