South Korean stocks rise by about 1% in the first session of the week

South Korean stocks ended trading on Monday with an increase of about 1% after a volatile session, with investors awaiting the results of chip manufacturing companies for the second quarter of this year.

The positive performance was supported by the rise in the shares of chip manufacturers “Samsung Electronics” and “SK Hynix” by 1.80% and 3.24%, respectively, which are the two companies that represent more than half of the relative weight of the “KOSPI” index, ahead of announcing their quarterly results later this week.

On Saturday, South Korea announced new initiatives in the field of artificial intelligence worth $950 billion, with the participation of Samsung Electronics, SK Group, and American technology companies, as part of the efforts of global artificial intelligence industry leaders to fill the shortage of advanced chips needed to operate and develop more advanced systems.
